Our Story

Wishing Well School was born out of a wish, just as you might throw a coin into a well.  I started Wishing Well School out of our home in 2008.  At that time, I had been a Waldorf educator for ten years in the Northern California Bay Area and my husband, our twins, and I were new residents to the Central Coast. Giving our children a Waldorf education was important to us and, after researching local schools and discovering there were no Waldorf schools on the Central Coast, well..... we had the crazy idea to start one.

 

The school began as a nursery program with just six children, two of which were our twins.  After word getting around, three years later our little home was bursting at the seams with children and ready to make the next big step. After many parent work days, painting classrooms, planting flowers, cleaning and building everything from scratch, we opened our doors to families of Preschoolers, Kindergarteners, and First graders in 2012 at Sunnyside campus. Soon after, we established our 501(c)(3) non-profit status and seated our first Board of Directors.

 

During those early pioneering years, our underpaid teachers and staff gave the maximum amount of love and energy to this budding school, which was now taking on a life of its own.  In 2022, Wishing Well crossed a major milestone, graduating its first 8th graders, from a 7th / 8th Grade combo class,  with once again, six (8th Grade) students.  I, as fate would have it, was the teacher for that combo class and had the honor of graduating those first 8th Grade students. This journey has been one I wouldn't trade for anything. I am thrilled beyond measure that the school is a vibrant, growing, dynamic community of families that can reap the benefits of a wholesome Waldorf-inspired education. Throughout this journey it has always astounded me that the right people are drawn to the school at the right time to bring it the life it needs. Come join us and become part of the journey.
